The Aare has carved its course through the limestone rock between Meiringen and Innertkirchen over tens of thousands of years. In doing so, it has created a gorge 1.4 km long, up to 200 m deep, and only 1 to 2 m wide in places. You can walk the whole of the Aare Gorge starting from Meiringen or Innertkirchen. Tip: in July and August, it is open and lit until 10 pm.
